Wardak province, Afghanistan, March 2006.
Girls at school enjoy new books they received from the Ministry of Education. Few months later the situation changed: the Taliban claimed to have influence across most of the country. They were able to operate freely in Wardak Province, a remote region 50 miles west from Kabul. The school was burned.
Due to the deteriorating security in Wardak area, the girls have not yet returned to the school building.
